Freelance Web Developers Are Needed – A Work From Home
Opportunity
Working from home has been a dream for many Americans. The thought of simply rolling out of bed,
turning on your computer, and going to work has a strong appeal for many of
us. The main problem faced by those who want
to work at home, is what are they going to do to earn money?
Sometimes the simplest answer to this
question is to simply look in the mirror.
You are the answer.
Let’s say you are a web developer. You have a job working for a web development
firm. You make decent money, but there
is always the itch to earn more. Many of
us work for companies where raises rare or the ability to earn bonus cash in
non-existent. The only solution is to
make money on the side.
How do you start making extra money as a web developer? Do you start advertising your business locally
in the newspaper? Do you develop your
own website, and start a Google Adwords campaign?
The short answer is yes; you can move forward
with one or both of those methods.
But what if you lack the financial resources to start those
types of advertising campaigns? What
other options do you have?
Do a simple web search on Google.com for “Freelance Web
Developer Jobs.” Google will return over
1 million search results! There must be
a huge need for freelance web developers!
Now that you found potential work opportunities, how do sort through all
those search results and find the truly worthwhile freelance opportunities?
Start by searching one of the freelance jobs websites on
Google’s first page search results. Let’s
try Upwork.com to begin with. Upwork has
a good reputation, and their membership structure is fairly priced.
Here's a Youtube video which helps explain how to get hired on Upwork:
I did a broad key word search on Upwork for “Web Developer.” Upwork returned a total of 10,823 jobs! Of course not all of these jobs were
specifically looking for web developers, due to the keywords "web" and "developer" being listed in a job description.
In scrolling through and filtering the search
results, there is a huge need for web developers on Upwork. Many of these jobs were paying in the ”Expert”
pay range. This means those folks that posted the jobs are willing to pay a premium
price for a web developer.
The nice thing about landing a freelance job on Upwork is
that you can work from the comfort of your home on a project that fits your
time schedule.
Be sure to take the time
to create a nice profile page which showcases your talents and previously
completed projects. You may have to bid
low in order to land your first gig.
Once you build a solid reputation with positive feedback, you will then
be able to start increasing your fees accordingly.
Upwork does take a percentage of your earnings as a service
fee. Currently, Upwork charges a 10%
fee.
Starting in June 2016, the service
fee is increasing. For example, you will
be charged 20% for the first $500 you bill a client across all contracts with
that client. Once your billings with
that client increase to between $501.00 and $10,000.00, the service fee decreases back to 10%. Lastly, when your total billing
for a client is above $10,000.00, the service fee drops to 5%.
Despite the large fee increase for gigs listed under
$500.00, Upwork remains a viable option to help you find freelance jobs to satisfy
your work at home dreams.
Remember, if you want to work at home, there are many
options available to choose from. If you
do not know where to start, simply take a look at your skills and abilities. There is a strong likelihood you can sell it to others. I gave you just one
example of how a web developer can make extra money working from home.
You too can work from home. Find your niche, find the place to sell your
niche, and find fulfillment in reaching your dream of working from home!
